Elections Hilary 2010

Election Results!

First of all, thank you for attending hustings, asking great questions, and for a good participation in the elections. It is my pleasure (and relief) to say that we did cross the magic threshold of votes that were necessary to validate the elections. 88 ordinary members cast their votes which, although not as high as last year, is still a substantial number.

And now THE RESULTS!

President:
Therese Feiler

Vice-President:
Mandy Izadi

Treasurer:
Allyson Tessman

Welfare
Officer: Uday Raj Anand

Social
Secretaries: Hannah Long, Hilary Wynne, Matthew

IT
Officer: Naveen Keshava

Environmental
Officer: Xiao Cai

Library
Representative: Caterina Franchi

Sports
Representative: Matthew Conroy

Congratulations to all elected candidates and best wishes for the year ahead! Congratulations also to the others who contested. You were all great candidates and I thank you for your interest and time and hope that you will continue being actively involved with the MCR.

For those interested, detailed results are listed below.

For clarification: If the necessary quota wasn't reached in the first round, the
candidate with the least votes was dropped. The ballot forms were then
re-evaluated. Any ballot where the first preference candidates had been
dropped, the candidate with the next highest preference was given its vote. More
details are in the Constitution available on the MCR website. If you have
questions concerning the election outcome, please feel free to contact me.

Pre-election procedures

For the election to be valid at least 24 MCR members have to cast a
vote (10% of all ordinary members). The Returning Officer is Sahana Ghosh (sahana.ghosh@exeter.ox.ac.uk). Please contact her if you have any questions.

Please see bottom of the Elections Hilary 2010 page for manifestos of the candidates for this election.

Fairness

We all want a fair election. Campaigning is of course allowed (or even encouraged), but bad-mouthing, and spreading lies or unrelated information should not be part of it.

Running for a position: Deadline: Monday, 25 January 2010

If you want to run for a position, you need to sign up on the sheet in the MCR by Monday, 25 January. You need to specify an MCR member proposing you, and a different member seconding you. You may be one of the two members proposing/seconding. Alternatively you can email the returning officer with this data until 25 January.
Any proposals submitted later than that date may not be considered.

Hustings: Friday, 29 January 2009, 5pm

All candidates are expected to attend hustings on Friday, 29 January, 5pm in the MCR. At hustings, every candidate will have the chance to present their agenda. For President, and Vice-President, there is a time limit of 3 minutes, for all other positions it is 1 minute. All MCR members may then ask the candidates questions. Due to fairness reasons, all questions will be directed to all candidates. The returning officer will moderate hustings. If a candidate is not able to attend hustings, they may prepare a statement to be read out by the moderator. All candidates are expected to write a small text with their main ideas. This text will be posted on the MCR website, and will allow those members that did not have a chance to come to hustings get an idea of what the candidates' programme is. The text needs to be emailed to the returning officer by Thursday, 28 January, 1pm. All candidates - especially those running for President, Vice-President, and Treasurer are expected to read the constitution (http://www.exetermcr.com/files Constitution_William_Petre_Society.pdf) before hustings.

Election: 29 Jan 2009, 6pm until 30 Jan 2009, 10pm

Elections will start after hustings, at 6pm, and polls will be open until Saturday, 10pm. Votes will be cast on http://vote.exetermcr.com/, access data will be emailed closer to the date. All votes are cast anonymously. Details on the election procedure can be found in the constitution (http://www.exetermcr.com/files/Constitution_William_Petre_Society.pdf).
In simple terms: you will cast a vote stating the order of preference. 1 will be your first choice, 2 your second choice, etc. The person who is supported by the majority wins. [There are three posts open for social secretaries, so the three candidates supported most will be elected.]

Results: Saturday, 30 January 2009

Results will be revealed at 11.59pm on Saturday, 30 January 2009. The elected candidates will immediately take up their offices.
