On Tuesday 2nd March 2010, PricewaterhouseCoopers will be visiting Exeter College to host a drop-in session for drinks and networking in the Quarrel Room. We will be joined by Ben Millinchip, Joanna Smith and Ben Wylie, alumni of Exeter and now PwC Associates in our Consulting and Assurance practices. InternshipsInternship opportunities for 2010: Piramal Pharmaceuticals - 4 weeks internship for one or two students including introduction to the structure of a commercial pharmaceutical firm. Hosted by the President, PR&D, working on a project (outcome needs to be useful to the company) with due consideration to the interests and capabilities of the student(s). On the last day of the program there will be a short seminar on the findings and a lunch with Dr. Piramal. Internship will occur some time between 15th May and 15th September. Dates flexible and will be arranged with the successful applicant(s). Preferred qualifications: (a) Any year undergraduate or graduate students in the sciences willing to work in Pharmaceutical (Preformulation and Formulation R&D) (b) People keen on Chemistry, Polymers, Physics or any other science but willing to try out a new field, are welcome. (c) Projects may be techno-commercial so undergraduate economics students (any year) may apply. (www.nicholaspiramal.com) Clifford Chance - placement in a global law firm based in London, with focus on PR and media. Intern will be involved with PR/media relations, internal communications and external communications/marketing. Dates arranged with successful applicant, but will be several months in the summer. (www.cliffordchance.com) The Economist - 4-6 weeks in Paris or Frankfurt office, working on sales side (near fluency in French or German required) (www.economist.com) Fluid Architects *NEW for 2010* - 4-8 weeks working on a project with urban planning and community regeneration company in June/July (www.fluidoffice.com) Intern's duties include: reporting to Christina Norton and/or Project Leader, desktop research, socio economic databasing & statistical analysis, planning events, attendance and involvements in public consultation. Travel and expenses paid, if required for longer will be paid minimum wage. The High Court - Hong Kong placement 4-8 weeks in July or September 2010, unfunded and unpaid (there are some internship grants available to partly cover unfunded internship costs). Fantastic opportunity for someone who already intends to go to Hong Kong or surrounding area this summer. (http://www.judiciary.gov.hk/en/index/index.htm) International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) - supports scientific research and manages field projects all over the world. Last year interns worked in the East Asian office. The intern will be tailored to the student's specific capabilities, but will most likely entail working in a developing country as well as in Geneva. (www.iucn.org) International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) - summer placement with an independent, non-profit organization promoting sustainable patterns of world development. The intern will be tailored to the student's specific capabilities, but will most likely entail working in a developing country as well as in London. (www.iied.org) Lovells LLP - 4 week placement with a highly respected solicitors firm in London (www.lovells.com) Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) - OECD is an international organisation of 30 member countries centred on exploring options and solutions to important national and internal public policy challenges. The intern would report to the Director or the Deputy Director of the Secretary General's Advisory Services. S/he would be expected to assist in the scoping of new projects, refining data collection and analysis for existing projects, or developing altogether new project ideas. Work in effect as a research assistant on a defined project. Summer placement based in Paris office (French language skills not required). Preferred qualifications: good writying skills exemplified in the ability to produce succinct, accurate and timely reports; good knowledge of the international public policy environment would be an advantage; good quantitative skills. Ability to work independently and self-motivate. Knowledge of French, German, Chinese an asset. (www.oecd.org) Osborne Clarke - one week shadowing placement in London (www.osborneclarke.com) Qinetiq - summer placement with one of the world's leading defence technology and security companies - excellent for engineering or physics students. Project to be defined between project manager and applicant. (www.qinetiq.com) Public Zone - team of writers, designers, technology experts and strategists who have a passion for doing brilliant work for not-for-profit organisations and projects.
